In May 2023, CERI embarked on a mission to align Sri Lanka’s child protection policies with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and related international frameworks. The goal was to enhance the inclusion and protection of children with disabilities (CWD) in the country.

  • Comprehensive assessment and expert interviews using thematic analysis to evaluate the current state of child protection for CWD in Sri Lanka.
  • Practical recommendations for aligning Sri Lanka's child protection system with CRPD principles, supported by robust evidence and international best practices.
  • Strategies designed to be actionable and economically viable, addressing the complex conditions in Sri Lanka.
  • Recommendations include strengthening the existing framework, improving stakeholder coordination, and launching a national campaign to promote the rights of CWD.
