Family-Based
Care

CERI’s core program area, Family-Based Care keeps children safely with their families rather than in institutional care. CERI helps families address the root causes of separation, whether economic hardship, lack of documentation, or limited access to healthcare and education, ensuring every child has a safe, family-based environment to grow up in.

Youth & Aftercare
Services

This program area supports older children and young adults as they transition toward independence, offering life-skills training, educational continuity support, and employment readiness programs like Guatemala’s Opportunities for Young Leaders. By equipping youth with real skills and connections to local employers, CERI helps them build a future at home rather than migrating or falling through the cracks as they age out of support. 

Systems
Strengthening

CERI works alongside governments, ministries, and local institutions to improve the broader child welfare systems that families depend on, supporting national care reform, deinstitutionalization efforts, and stronger policy alignment. This work extends CERI’s impact beyond individual families to the systems and structures that determine whether vulnerable children are protected at scale.

Emergency Relief​

When disaster strikes, whether a cyclone, flooding, or tropical storm, CERI mobilizes rapid-response support to help families meet immediate needs and recover without being separated by crisis. This includes partnering with organizations like UNICEF on nutrition and health interventions, repairing damaged homes, and documenting lessons learned to strengthen CERI’s emergency preparedness for the future. 

Community Centers​

CERI’s Community Centers serve as a one-stop hub where families can access services, participate in learning events and trainings, receive health referrals, and build social connection. By bringing services together under one roof, Community Centers reduce the barriers families face in getting help and creating a consistent, trusted point of contact between CERI and the communities it serves.
