18 April 2017, Ranchi, Jharkhand, India – The Centre of Excellence in Alternative Care of Children in India, supported by Core Assets Group, has joined Child in Need Institute in Ranchi, Jharkhand to meet with the Jharkhand State Government to plan the drafting of the State foster care guidelines. The Central Government Model Guidelines on Foster Care, released in 2016, have yet to be adopted by a state government.

The first official meeting was called by the Director/ Member Secretary of the Jharkhand State Child Protection Society on 11 April 2017.

The outcome of the meeting was the formation of a working group to draft and submit the first Foster Care and Sponsorship Guidelines for the State of Jharkhand.  The guidelines will be based off notified Central Government guidelines that impel states to adapt or adopt the documents to their respective contexts.  The working group met on 17 April 2017 after a week of deliberation.

CERI continues to form partnerships with organizations developing countries’ governments and civil society in their legislative effort to make family-based care a primary way of protecting vulnerable children.
